Christmas wreaths are used for many different things during the Christmas holiday season. They are traditionally made from evergreen boughs. They have wreath shaped wires that you can use to attain the shape if you want to make one of your own. Wreaths can be used as advent wreaths, either at home for your own enjoyment of the season or you will find them in Christian churches. The advent wreath is placed with four candles. Three are purple and there is one that is the colour rose or mauve. One candle is lit per week beginning the first week of December. The mauve candle is lit on the third week, and in some instances you will find a fifth candle that is white that is lit on Christmas Day in honour of Jesus’ birth. The circle of the wreath shows God’s love for his people, the purple candles are for our faith, and the mauve candle stands for the happiness of advent. The candles that are placed within the wreath have different names. The first is the Prophet’s candle, for the continued faith that Jesus will come. The second is the Bethlehem candle, for Jesus’ lowly birthplace. The third is the Shepherd’s candle, and the fourth is the Angel’s candle announcing the baby Jesus’ birth. You will very often see a Christmas wreath on the door of a home and this is to signify your happiness with the advent season. You can buy wreaths that are already made from vendors that sell Christmas trees or you can enjoy making your own. When you make your own Christmas wreath you will be able to put your personality and décor into it. They are very simple to do and it will help you get in the festive spirit. Once you have purchased the wire ring and florist wire you will want to take some evergreen boughs and start to shape your wreath. You slowly go around the ring attaching the boughs. Once you have completed the circle you can cut any errant branches that ma be sticking out. When you have this part of the wreath done it is time to decorate it. If you want a more natural wreath you could attach some pinecones and berries and finish it off with a raffia bow. You may like something with a little more colour however, so you could add some colourful Christmas ornaments, bells and a brightly coloured ribbon. You are only limited by your imagination when making a Christmas wreath. You could also purchase an artificial wreath from the store that can be used year after year. They have containers that are made specifically for storing wreaths. Once you have your wreath, place in on a wreath hanger and enjoy
