Creating memories for your Christmas is probably very important to you. There are a number of families who have traditions that they carry on from generation to generation because of this importance placed on family and tradition around the Christmas season. If you want something to remember for years to come you might consider the quilts or patchwork option. There are several ways this idea can work. You might start a quilt with a square at the beginning of the holiday season. Then you send that quilt with your square to another family member. They add something and it gets sent around until it gets sent back to you. Then you can either keep it or give it as a gift. The next year you might consider adding another square or beginning a new quilt. The fabric, threads, and other materials you use should be of lasting quality. In other words you don’t want the quilt or patchwork to be destroyed after a couple of Christmases. Most families with a Christmas quilt idea will make a quilt for each new child of the year and so it continues for the next generations. There are kits you can buy for patchwork and classes to take on quilting to make this a tradition in your family. You don’t have to have a long tradition with Christmas quilts. You can start your own tradition. The designs you use should be meaningful to the person who will receive the quilt as a gift. In other words if you make it for a child you might have names, dates or other important things that will help them remember their life. For example, if you add a quilt square to a baby quilt for each year they are alive then by the time the quilt is full or finished they can have a great deal of their life on the quilt.
